In 1964 myself (René), Nelleke my significant other, and our little girl Iefje emigrated from Holland to Australia. I was 29 years of age and Nelleke a couple of years more youthful.

We live in the tropics of Far Northern Australia, a place obscure to numerous individuals around the globe.

Chilly climate and an aching for enterprise was the fundamental motivation to leave The Netherlands. We found an occupation in the tobacco fields. Amid that time we met a person from Macedonia and he acquainted us with a place called Agate Creek. I had never even heard the word agates. This was my first prologue to the universe of semi valuable stones and specifically agates.

In later years, 1965 to 1968, we went to Agate Creek with an old Nissan Patrol. It had extremely crude suspension, there were awful street conditions and arriving took two entire days.

Relatively few other individuals were there, burrowing for these potato looking fortunes. The alleged surface material was at that point passed by at that point. To uncover a gap to 3 meters with pick and scoop in dry hard soil was diligent work. The warmth, the a great many flies and continually being shy of drinking water, were the unforgiving conditions we needed to adapt to. However, the prizes were so energizing.

Burrowing for the agate knobs was something that was not for the alleged "city slickers"! Be that as it may, returning home following 12 to 14 days to Atherton with packs brimming with agates compensated for every one of the rankles and distress, in spite of the reality, that exclusive 30 to 35 %, in the wake of cutting, are useful for authorities around the world. We are, exceptionally particular and deal with the ones with blemishes, breaks, uninteresting examples and expansive crystallizations in the middle. In any case, the ones that are great are so delightful in shading, examples and outline, that it is difficult to discover correlation with different agates somewhere else on the planet. The compelling force of nature completed a superb activity!

An exceptionally intriguing book about agates by and large, including Agate Creek agates is accessible from http://www.agate-nodule.com/class/productions

Nowadays Agate Creek is as yet an exceptionally fascinating spot to visit and is significantly more available than in the days of yore. Presently, there is an outdoors ground, new water and dazzling individuals to bring up places, where despite everything you can uncover a few agates.

In 1996, Nelleke and I, with the two young ladies returned to The Netherlands to attempt and offer the harsh agates. It was anything but a keen move by any means, as the Dutch individuals did not recognize what they were and what to do with these "Stones".

What now? I chose to begin making gems from the agates. That worked and we begin bringing home the bacon once more. In 1969 we opened, with acquired cash, a Museum called "De Oude Aarde" (The Old Earth) in a place called Giethoorn, close Zwolle.

Despite the fact that not our own any longer it is as yet one of Holland's most fascinating mineralogical Museums. An unquestionable requirement if going by in Europe.

In 1977 we came back with the 3 young ladies to Northern Queensland, to our cherished Atherton Tablelands. Following 3 years relaxing I chose to begin another exhibition hall. This time a-blessing from heaven capriccio historical center, to stir individuals to the wonder of gem arrangements from around the globe. With money related assistance from Australia's advancement bank I assemble a dynamite semi-underground reenacted give in historical center, an enterprise arrive, a children's story for all age gatherings. Guests are provided with a digger's protective cap with light and an inventory. To finish this smaller than usual undertaking takes around 60 minutes. It's been the greatest accomplishment in my life. Guests from everywhere throughout the world have gone to this energizing and at the same instructive buckle historical center, with its staggering gathering of the most awesome examples from around the globe in plain view. A significant number of the bigger examples are unsupported and can be contacted. This is abundantly refreshing as you can read routinely in our guests book.

The making of "The Crystal Caves" took 14 moths to finish, with the assistance of a committed gathering of 5 fine individuals. The fantastic opening was in 1992, when the Honorable Minister of Tourism, Mr. Weave Gibbs flew in from Brisbane to play out the opening. TV, daily papers and other media were all there to help the opening and wondered about the marvels from where it counts in our Earth. You can see photo of the gallery at http://www.crystalcaves.com.au/.

The rest of the agates, those that were transported to Holland, were come back to Australia in 1977. Joined with the agates we cleared out with companions, we are currently choosing, cutting and cleaning them after each one of those years! You will discover in our new site http://www.agatesaustralia.com just the best of Queensland agates available to be purchased.
